Review of MMXII, EXLUSIVE interview with Reggie Bannister

Another killer convention over & done with. I was only able to make it down friday, but we still had a great time.

I was pleasantly surprised to see a large crowd so early in the day. Many parents with their kids, as well as some older couples as well. Everybody loves horror! The vendors there had some of the best shit I've seen in awhile. I managed to finally pick up a copy of The Deadly Spawn, and a killer BeetleJuice shirt from the guys at FRIGHT-RAGS (who fucking rock, by the way...check out all of their original ass-kicking designs here). There were a lot of cool guests there, but unfortunately my time and money was limited. I managed to catch a peak at the lovely Fairuza Bulk, but the line was way too long to talk to her. Same for Alice, whos line was wrapped around the hotel (he was also charging a lot). I was able to talk to Steve & Dave of T.A.P.S about their method of EVP analysis, and I had some amazing conversations with Reggie Bannister & Bill Thornbury of the Phantasm films.

Reggie gave me the update about what he's been up to lately, and about Phantasm V!!

K: So Reggie, how've you been?

R: I've been great man, I've been real great. I've been busy. I've got uh, about 8 releases coming out soon.

K: Wow, you've been a busy guy.

R: Yeah, 2 of 'em are mainstream films too. Go figure, me doing mainstream films...not that it's a bad thing hahaha.

K: That's great!

R: One of 'em is called Small Town Saturday Night. Chris Pine is in it too man. Do you like Star Trek?

K: Yea, I'm looking forward to the new movie.

R: Well Chris Pines is playing Kirk in that one!

K: Ah, I didnt know that was him. I'll have to keep my eyes out for that.

R: Great! Look for it uh, after Star Trek comes out. Also, there's Text, which is about people text messaging and then the texting starts making them doing crazy shit and acting weird.

K: Haha, I'll be sure to check that out definitely.

R: Another one, Satan Hates You. It's a horror film that should be out this summer.

K: Yeah, I heard about that one. I didn't know you were going to be in it.

R: Yeah, I got lots of stuff going on. Oh, don't know if you're into webisodes at all, but I just did this series for Fear.net that are coming out.

K: I'll definitely look into those, I'm always happy to see you in anything.

R: Thanks man, I'm happy to be seen.

K: By the way, I picked up Mangler II recently. I didn't know you were in it!

R: Yeah! That was a lot of fun. It's always fun doing another kind of role. I'm an actor, so It's what I do. I'm always trying to find something different to play. Actually, I play a pedophile in one of my movies coming out.

K: Whoa, that's hard to picture.

R: Yeah, it is. It's very different. He's the main character too. It's always good to try new roles though.

K: Yeah, of course. I can't wait to see the new stuff! But, now I gotta ask you. I'm sure you've heard this a million times...Phantasm V? What's going on?

R: Hah, well I'm not entirely sure exactly when, but...

K: I don't know if you saw, but you, Bill, and Don are credited on the Monster Mania site for Phantasm I-V and I said to myself what?? So I had to confirm it with you before I start freaking out!

R: Well you can start freaking out. Something is defnitely going to happen this year. I'm actually having breakfast with Don tomorrow morning, so we'll see what happens. It really just started moving forward.

K: Good, good. Now I'm excited. No remake though, right? It needs to be a part V. It's not Phantasm without you, Mike, Bill, or Angus.

R: No man, Don holds this really close to his heart. We all do.

K: That's the way it should be. It doesn't need to be remade!

R: Nope, not at all. By the way, did you know I had to audition for my part in Phantasm II?

K: No shit!?

R: Yeah! Reggie had to try out for the part of Reggie!

K: Wow! Ha, that's funny.

R: But yeah! Something is gonna happen...keep an eye out for dwarves, silver balls, and yellow blood, and all that crazy shit!

Reggie also has a new cd out!!! Be sure to check out the Reggie Bannister Band!

Holy PUPPETMASTER reboot in 3D Batman!

Yup. You read correctly. Puppetmaster creator Charles Band has decided the time has come for a much needed reboot of his 1989 film. Did I mention it's going to be in 3D?
I don't know about the 3D part, but I'm glad this is happening. Puppetmaster was cool the first time I saw it as a 12 year old, but after watching it more recently I was disappointed to see something with so much potential fall flat on it's face, like a lot of other Full Moon films.
Well I gotta run, but you can read more about this here: http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/15527

Update- HELLRAISER Remake

Since tapping Pascal Laugier (Martyrs) as director of the Hellraiser remake, Clive Barker hasn’t said much about the subject. Bloody-Disgusting was able to get a hold of the man for a few words.
"I'm supposed to get his treatment this week,” Barker says. I’m very excited at the idea of him doing it… Pascal is a very talented filmmaker, obviously a lot more talented than I was when I stepped onto the sound stage on [the first] Hellraiser and I hadn’t really directed anything before... I am completely open and ready to be blown away. I don’t have any possessiveness about it. I just want people to have fun.”
I’m sure a lot of you saw original Hellraiser f/x artist Gary Tunnicliffe’s new take on Pinhead (pictured in this blog), which he pitched last week. There were mixed thoughts on it, and some confused folks assumed this WAS new Pinhead. When asked about Tunnicliffe’s re-imagining of head honcho Cenobite, Barker commented that he “Didn’t like them.” He assured us all that the new design would be faithful to the original. “I feel that the Pinhead design works best because it’s geometric,” Clive remarks. “It’s very severe and schematized. Each of the squares are the same size, all the scars are laid out in a straight line. It isn’t the work of somebody going at somebody else’s face with a chainsaw. That, I think, is what makes the thing scary-ritual scarification. This is not crude, vicious slashing."
